In 1939, additions were made to the school including a new gymnasium and more buildings in recent years. Even with all the renovations, the school still has a unique 1916 feel about it. Not only is the high school one of the oldest buildings still in existence, but it has ghost of the past that are not willing to leave. Sometime between the 1930’s and the 1950’s two best friends, girls, made a suicide pact. The custodial staff has seen her walking the halls and at times, her perfume still lingers in the air. Science class had a visitor that could not be explained away by reasonable occurrences. At one time, the class used a real skeleton to learn about the bones of the human body. However, the school switched to plastic bones and packed away the real bones. In the other story a girl was waiting for an audition and was raped and killed by an unknown man. Today if one is in the locker room when all is quiet he will hear rapid breathing and faint moans. Often there are allegedly cool breezes accompanied by the feeling of fingers brushing lightly across the neck and shoulders. I am now a senior at Pocatello High School, and have made frequent visits there at night with my father years before that. You may say that you haven’t seen anything supernatural…..but face it the school is haunted. I have heard my share of haunted stories…and have heard the clankings in the locker room. There is no doubt in my mind that our school is haunted. Comment by tia Ellis | 01.9.2006 | 11:30 pm Actually, even though the rape may have happened long ago, you may actually be able to still hear it. Sometimes buildings well old buildings trap certain occurances and replay them over and over again. it’s a proven fact. Ever see ghosthunters on Sci-fi? Taps. They explained this on the episode they did on the hotel from THE SHINING. Don’t think you know everything because you don’t. Anything and everything is possible. Comment by Ashley | 07.24.2006 | 3:40 pm Built in 1893, this high school is shrouded by a number of ghost stories. Two of the stories involve the locker room just beneath the stage. In one case, the lead actress in a play was strangled in the locker room by a jealous understudy. The understudy simply went on the stage and took the murdered girl’s place. If one stands on the balcony at night and shines a red light on center stage, he will be confront by a girl in a polka dot dress. In the other story, a girl was waiting for an audition and was raped and killed by an unknown man. Today, if one is in the locker room when all is quiet, he will hear rapid breathing and faint moans. Often, there are allegedly cool breezes accompanied by the feeling of fingers brushing lightly across the neck and shoulders. The first mistake in the story is that the area under the stage is not called a locker room, they are dressing rooms. In my day, no one used the girls restroom in the dressing room hall, we all used the boys room because we were sure the girls room was haunted. That may or may not have been true but we didn’t even go to that end of the hall alone. Maybe there were ghosts, maybe the light at that end just didn’t work which is always creepy in an old building. I did sit in the hall once all by my self, hoping to hear the sound or see a ghost but nothing happend. Does that mean anything? No. Too bad you don’t have more stories like the missing locker and the stairways behind the walls. Mrs. Beryl Taylor knew them all. Comment by ALF | 09.4.2006 | 4:58 pm I currently attend Poky, and I have heard them all. For example, the one about the girl who locked herself in a locker and hung herself on friday. She wore a whole bottle of perfume to cover the smell up. she wasn’t discovered until the next monday. I guess the lockers were bigger. Also, the jazz band had a rock-a-thon and we held a seance. Sorry, I can’t spell very well. Anyway, we talked to the polk-a-dot girl but she didn’t tell us who did it. by the time she was telling us what happened I had left the stage Cassi our love goes out to you. Comment by megan | 10.24.2006 | 9:41 pm I had just recently graduated from poky. The four years that i had spent there migh have been the coolest of my life. I have seen aperations and ghostly figures at the end of allways and i have shined the red light on the stage and saw something run acrose it very quickly. I do wish to major in paranormal activity and to come back to the high school and do some real work on it. Comment by John Silverton | 11.9.2006 | 2:36 pm i go to pocatello high school and i also work there, ya thats right im a jantior, so im there in the summer and really late at night. i have personally heard footsteps in the aditorium late at night when thers no one there. a few people that work with me also state that they too have heard and seen things, like one said he saw a girl dancing on stage, and another ran out almost in tears saying her mop bucket slid by itself into the double doors. i worked there last summer and there were some balloons that were tied on to a random seat in the audatorium that didnt go flat the whole summer and would blow like there was a slight breeze. ya poky is an old school but i found it eerie. Comment by missy | 08.10.2007 | 9:16 pm WHy is this listed under COnnecticut instead of Idaho? Comment by Josh | 10.4.2007 | 4:03 pm I know it is haunted for a fact i am a freshmen there, and my grandma and dad and uncle and my aunt and so on went there and my other grandma was a janitor there for 6 years she quit after then and moved anyways she worked there at night and she seen things like a girl walking down the hall singing then diasapears into thin air and then when she went into the room with the stage she seen things and heard stuff and i know it is haunted the people that think it isn’t its because they don’t want to see one thats why, if u don’t believe me then go around the building 3 times i went and it freaked me out but the school is good and fun so dont be afraid of it it only happens at night Comment by Amber | 10.15.2007 | 8:17 pm This School Is in Pocatello Idaho. Therefore it needs to be put there in the listing. now as for the school being Haunted. IT IS!!!!!!! i HAVE SEEN THINGS. ME AND A FRIEND SAW THIS. One night around 1:30 am. him and i were driving by the school. we saw two girls in the windows at the back of the main bldg. Now we then went to the windows by the deans office, and by small gym. now one was there we saw the town girls walk by window, then we saw them inside the deans office window. that freaked us out, cause they looked at us. we left but didn’t go home we drove back by about 20 mins later. and the fire dept. was there, a fire was started in the deans office, but the kicker is when the fired dept responded, the door of deans office was locked, and fire was set from within his office in a garrabge can. Also I have witnessed first hand the hauntings of the auditorium, and the seage, the locker rooms, and other areas of school. also saw a door to a locked balcony. watched door shut, and a kid w/ jenkins (drama teach) went to balcony and found both doors locked. he unlocked them, went in and foun no one sitting in any of the seats. The tunnels under the school, that is some massive haunting grounds. I’ve seen the girl, and a few other gohsts. I went and heard footsteps, turn and no one there. I fave also felt someone touch me, from behind, turn and no one there. Seen a girl and a guy in windows of libary. Also a friend of mine killed himself on the road right behind the school. I also have seen people walk down halls, and go to where u think they’d be, and find no one Comment by tom | 10.15.2007 | 11:39 pm I’m a junior and i can’t really tell you if poky high is haunted or not. But I do belive that the school is haunted. I have heard some freaky things in the school before but never been able to see any “ghost”…yet. I’m not afraid of ghost at all, as a matter of fact, I want to see the ghost. Me and my friend are planning on driving around the school three times on holloween night and look directly through the library windows. One of my friends did that and said when she did it, she seen a red outlinning of a person hannging from a rope. That just makes me even more curious, don’t you? Comment by amber | 10.18.2007 | 9:08 pm amber that is true about the library windows, and the red outlinning of a person hannging from a rope. I too have seen it. also check all the windows at back of main bldg. I’ve seen two girls. Sometimes they are there. If you see them looking down like they are looking at the road, see if you can see their eyes. Also i’ve seen the girl, the one that got hung in the locker. I’ve also seen and heard other things. You need to ask your friends, and even the janitors, cause i’ve known some of them, and they really don’t like to be there after hours. I also would like to know of any other stories that you know of. Comment by tom | 10.20.2007 | 1:30 am |

| Name: haunted maddox house , IN Submitted By: Maisie Baumis | This house has had some pretty weird experiences. I'm at a quite young age and my mother and i have experienced some minor ghost reactions. nothing huge: get a ghost hunter in here NOW type thing but in the past we've had some people here before us who had a ghost hunter take out the spirits and when another person stayed, they were selling the place and their agent for selling the house accidently shot a picture of a couple ghosts. So i,myself, are a big believer in ghosts and spirits. My grandpa and i take pictures of ghosts in cemitarys and hit the jackpot! So all that's really happened was doors slam shut sometimes and there's human urine on the ground in my room all the time, where the agent took the last picture of a couple ghosts. |

After leading the Whiskey Rebellion in Virginia General Bradford was to the area that would soon become Louisiana. There through a Spanish land grant he acquired the land that would eventually become the Myrtles. Gen. Bradford chose the location since it was the highest point around. Unfortunately the spot had served as a burial ground for the Bayou Goulas and Houmas Indian tribes. When his workers came across bones as they were laying the foundation they were ordered by Bradford to stack and burn them. For many years Gen. Bradford lived in the house with his family. He only once reported seeing a ghost--a naked Indian woman that was always crying. After he died a natural death Gen. Bradford's house and plantation were passed on to his daughter and son-in-law. Soon after taking over the plantation Judge Woodruff the son-in-law chose one his house slaves Chloe to serve as his mistress. A young woman Chloe once caught the judge in a very compromising situation. Upset at what she had seen Woodruff had Chloe's left hear cut off. To hide the awful scar she began wearing a green turban and it became her trademark. To try to regain her good name with the Judge Chloe laced a cake with oleander flowers. She hoped the judge's family would get sick and she would be able to nurse them back to health. Unfortunately she used too much oleander and everyone except the judge died. After desperately attempting to locate them she became so saddened that she laid her body on the railroad tracks and waited to be killed. A moment before the train came the boys jumped out the bushes where they were hiding just in time to witness their mother being killed. The boys were later admitted to a mental institution and can be seen walking along the tracks every July as restless spirits. |

| Name: 1810 29th ave southwest apt 3 Calgary Alberta Canada, CD Submitted By: | I moved from Ottawa to Calgary in the early to mid 1990's. Once there I needed to find a place, soon enough I moved in to the address shown. Within no time at all, mid-day there was activity. I was returning home with my girlfriend at the time from doing groceries and while placing cleaning products under the sink in the so-called kitchen the refigerator door from fully closed swung open and smacked me in the ass and knocked me over. I thought it was Tori but she was in the bathroom putting things away there. That night I wanted her to stay the night but she refused partially due to her overbearing parents and partially cuz she felt the same peculiar feeling to the place. I went to sleep that night and that is when the dreams started, I had no idea for over a month as I often don't remember my dreams unless something reminds me of what happened then the whole thing floods back to me. I dreamed that I had a roomate, didn't know his name, all I knew was that he was Chinese, had tattered jeans on and wore a white t-shirt with this red plaid lumberjack shirt unbuttoned. He and I (so I felt in the dream) were best friends. As I got into a routine in the house it almost seemed to me I had someone watching out for me. Some nights i would come home from my job and fall asleep shortly after I ate only to be jarred awake by knocking on the walls which was loud enough to wake the entire building, yet no one heard it other than me. This knocking/banging would continue until I flipped the switch on my alarm clock. I know this sounds stupid but it happened...The first time it happened it took me forever to figure it out and when I flipped the switch it was like hitting a mute button..instant silence. The moments thereafter I was kinda freaked out as I lay back down in bed I remembered what i was dreaming about, sure enough my "friend" and I were in the living room talking about not being happy having to work early on Saturday morning and he had told me that I should set my alarm. I woke up immediately to the knocking/banging. That happened everytime I forgot to set the alarm for the rest of the time i was there. One of my friends came to visit from Ottawa and it happened once while he was there too. Just to discount any sceptical pipes in the wall comments...this was a basement apartment and had cynderblock walls. The noise was coming from the walls in the front room not the ceiling where the pipes were running. Not to mention there were no pipes in the front room ceiling as they were all set back further in the building. In the meantime things continued to happen for months. I never once slept in the main bedroom as the day I moved in i felt an erie negativity in there so i put the bed in the living room infront of my tv and behind me was the coffee table. At night while watching shows I would hear sliding noises on the table, for weeks I couldn't figure it out so one night I made sure to put my pack in a specific spot... sure enough within 10 minutes I heard the noise and got up to look and they were completely on the opposite side of the table. Often times you would walk from the front room to the bathroom or out the back door and through the hallway you would feel a coldspot which would last about 1-2ft. I was playing hockey at the time too, I kept my equipment in the spare bedroom(more like a closet space if you ask me) It has a big fuck -off steel door and frame, for some reason they put an industrial door on it..no clue as to why(like the ones in gov't buildings going into stairwells) This door was warped or the floor had settled and could not be closed closer than an inch from the latch. I returned home from work one night only to find the door shut completely. It opened into the room so i figured running kicks were the cure. Being 220 lbs it shouldn't be too hard to get it open this way...10 minutes and 3 neighbors knocking later...one of my neigbors let me use their phone(I was poor and couldn't afford one) to call my coach and let him know what had happened... he said he would come with a crow bar. He showed up, and I was still in the back hallway talking to Angela my neighbor, we all walked back in the apt together and the door was wide open, there was this stench coming from the room too, and it wasn't my equipment...it smelled like rotting flesh. I took my stuff out and went outside, my coach white as a ghost asked to smell my hockey bag and we both did and there was no smell at all out of the ordinary to it. His suggestion at the time was to get the fuck out of there. Needless to say I didn't listen...I never do listen to anyone but myself still to this day. More and more these dreams would come to me, Ang and I would go to Wolfies pub together a lot and I would sleep at her place even tho I was still with Tori...(It got me away from the activity and well she was pretty cute) The last night I was even in the apartment I had gone to Wolfies with a buddy and met a girl, can't remember her name for the life of me, we went back to my place "hung out for a bit" Then we were sitting on the couch and she was rolling a joint for herself, when she looked over at me all the weed she crumbled up blew off the side table like a gust of wind passed by only there. She was kinda shocked so i started to explain about the place and told her all these stories and that he wasn't bad, he just was and there was no reason to be afraid...he actually has helped me if anything..i wouldn't have still had my job if it weren't for him waking me up on numerous occasions. She stood up and started mouthing off in all directions, I began to feel uneasy about it and got up too..She then started to get really profane immediately the lights,tv and all power in the apt just dropped, I grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the side door of the apt to get out into the stairwell, opened the door got out closed the door only to realize I wasn't holding her hand...she was screaming in fear inside and i couldn't get the door open again. This lasted for about 10 seconds but it felt like 10 minutes. All of a sudden the door finally opened for me, I went in, lights were now on and she came running out the door, up the stairs and outside, I tried talking to her to find out what had happened but she didn't say a word about what happened in there. She was mad i ran out alone...to this day i can remember like it was yesterday, reaching to where she was standing before the lights turned off and grabbing her wrist/hand and feeling the warmth and weight of her as i pulled towards the door only to get in the hallway and realize i was alone...it still makes me shiver. I gave up on cosoling her and turned back home and went next door to Ang's apartment... she was still up but heard nothing from our apartment though she knew i had another girl there, why she didn't hear the screams i don't know. I heard them and i was outside, but she had heard us in the apartment prior to the incident...I only ever went back in to pick up mu clothes 2 days later. I decided I was moving to Canmore Alberta(In the rocky mountains) and had found a hotel that charged by the month and it was really reasonable. I moved there at the end of the month after staying with a buddy for the in-between time, and moved into room 18. The weirdest part of this story is that on the exact same day the guy who lived in room 18 until just before i moved there, moved out and moved into 1810 29th ave SW aparment #3 in Calgary. Months later I was still living in the hotel when this guy decided to drop in on Chris my neigbor in the hotel...turned out it was buddy who moved into my apartment I was living in before...I can't remember all his stories he told Chris and I but i do remember him showing me these burn like scratches on his leg he woke up with one night while sleeping in the main bedroom. All his stories came before I had even mentioned to him about having lived there before him. Finally....about half a year later I became tired of plumbing and wanted to try something else so i went back to Calgary and ran into one of my old neighbors(Brian) he was in his late 50's and he and his wife lived upstairs on the opposite side of the building I used to. He offered me a job doing eavestrough installation (gutters) I accepted and moved in with him. We had never really talked before this other than a hello and small talk. Once I moved in with them (they had been there for 10 or more years. They told me the history of that apartment which included a really nice chinese guy in his 20's who lived there when they first moved in. He got himself into trouble with drugs and was found stabbed to death in the spare bedroom a while after it had happened......pretty fucked huh? Maybe one day I will go back to Calgary to visit my old friend.... |
